Long COVID Guidance
Over 5% of adults in the U.S. are reported to have Long COVID. Since the onset of COVID-19, many people have experienced long-term symptoms that range from mild to debilitating, significantly affecting their quality of life.
While there isn’t a single solution or consistent approach that works for everyone with Long COVID, there are some core issues that many sufferers have identified as being at the root of their symptoms. Addressing these issues has led to positive shifts in their health for many individuals.
The common issues that I have found that need to be addressed are these:
Rest. Getting plenty of rest is important for those recovering from LC.
Heal the gut. COVID has been found to be quite destructive to the gut. It negatively affects the gut bacteria, the gut lining, and seems to contribute to gut-related issues like food sensitivities, high histamine levels and high levels of inflammation throughout the body.
Healing the gut would include eliminating bad bacteria and Candida (this can easily run rampant when the gut has been hit by a virus). I’d recommend using Asea a few times a day (which is an FDA-approved MLM product I don’t sell) or another hypochlorous acid solution. (I use HypoRedox, 1 tsp in water 3-4 x per day. Note: I cannot recommend others do the same seeing as how it isn’t approved by the FDA as a food-grade product).
I’d also use something like NOW Foods Candida Support. And would recommend using a peptide called KPV by Integrative Peptides for a month and then, if needed, follow up with Larazotide from BioLabShop to more fully “seal up” the gut lining.
Use a probiotic like Now Foods Probiotic-10 with Bifido boost before bed. Avoiding foods like gluten and sugar is often a necessity for many who have LC. And for others, avoiding dairy makes a big difference and allows the gut to heal as well. There are many great options that will help heal and seal the gut lining (after doing some work to reduce the overgrown pathogens). Some of these options would be KPV/Larazotide, as mentioned above, or using Integrative Peptides Gut Feeling, or use an herbal tea a few times a days consisting of marshmallow root, calendula, plantain and peppermint. Or you can try using ARMRA colostrum. We sell a gut healing set that works on healing the leaky gut at a variety of angles.
Having regular bowel movements is important for healing the gut. I have read someone’s story whose LC symptoms reduced in a dramatic way just by taking a fiber supplement that helped him have 2-3 bowel movements per day.
Mitochondrial Support. I’d suggest taking a liposomal glutathione supplement and an NAD+ supplement of your choice. Rho Nutrition or LivOn Labs are good brands. Getting out in the sun and/or using a red light therapy panel also helps. Eating a lot of antioxidant rich foods helps (lots of fruits and veggies as smoothies and/or cooked) - as long as you haven’t grown an intolerance to them. A paleo-type diet tends to work well for many.
Decrease inflammation. Long COVID can cause high levels of inflammation in the body due to negative affects on the gut lining but also due to underlying continual infections/re-infections of the virus. Getting inflammation under control is important. Using a natto/serrapeptase supplement is recommended. Along with taking an Omega 3 supplement and one tsp. of organic olive oil twice a day. Using an infrared sauna /sauna blanket is also very helpful. Doing intermittent fasting 16 hours of not eating and 8 hours of eating would help.
Reducing the viral load and possibly working on reducing other pathogenic loads that went wild after having the immune system be hit hard with the virus. Viruses aren’t like bacteria where you can just take an antibiotic and it kills them off. But there are some herbs and supplements that have been found to help. Some of these are lemon balm, dandelion root, and/or lactoferrin. Taking NAC regularly also helps and may help with continual flare ups.
Heal the organs. I highly recommend using a BPC supplement by Integrative Peptides. You can also consider finding a high quality BPC-157 & TB-500 injection to both help rebuild the body and help regulate the immune system.
Get Adequate Nutrition. Using a multi-vitamin of your choice would be good. Hardy Nutritionals is a good brand. Or I would recommend using a beef organs blend powder. (You may want to avoid using the organs powder if you have high levels of copper.) Taking basic supplements like Vitamin C, vitamin D, and Magnesium would be highly recommended as well. I also highly recommend taking a fulvic/humic liquid - starting slow! - by only taking 3-4 drops a day and working up to taking one tsp. per day.
Support MTHFR (methylation pathways) - Support MTHFR gene mutation by taking DMG twice a day - starting slow. Taking a creatine and choline supplement also helps support MTHFR pathways. Once those pathways are supported, the body can better handle taking B vitamins. I recommend Dr. Purser’s MTHFR Daily supplement - start slow with 1/4 capsule once a day, increasing the dosage every few days to recommended dosage.
Immune system support. This one can be tricky seeing as how many people with Long COVID have a dysregulated immune system that can possibly be causing mast cell activation syndrome - where the body attacks itself. The prescription medication is often very helpful for many with LC. Or consider using ARMRA Colostrum - starting slow. And the peptide Thymogen by Integrative Peptides can help regulate the immune system.
Decrease high levels of histamine in the body by going on a low-histamine diet. Also consider taking a Quercetin supplement. This is a big one for many who have Long COVID. Histamine issues run rampant because gut health has been affected. Herbs that are histamine blockers are nettle, ginger, and turmeric. Vitamin C also helps to reduce histamine levels. Sleep problems/insomnia are a very common sign that histamine levels are high in the body.
Support the adrenals. More often than not, if chronic illness is involved, the body has been under stress during that time and adrenal fatigue has set in. Supporting the adrenals by taking HP Wellness adrenal formula or using Garden of Life adrenal formula would be a good option.
Move the lymph. This one is important and is often overlooked. Circulation is key to getting well again. There are many wonderful ways to help move the lymph. Some of these ways are: doing light exercising (if possible), even if that’s just walking around the house, doing an full-body oil massage, using olive oil before bed (wear long sleeved clothes before you go to bed so you don’t get oil on your sheets), gua sha, cupping, and along with any of those, take a good lymphatic herbal formula. We sell a low-alcohol, herbal lymph formula - or pull together lymph-draining herbs and make a tea, drinking one cup, 3-6 x per day.
Exercise. Exercising can be tricky, especially if post exertional malaise (“PEM”) is a part of the picture. However, after reading through many LC stories, it does seem to benefit many if very small amounts of exercise can be done once or several times a day, building up to being able to exercise for 10-20 minutes at a time, going slow and steady so as not to trigger PEM. This helps increase oxygen throughout the entire body, it helps move the lymph which helps detox the body, and it helps build up the muscles which helps with POTS symptoms for several reasons and it helps increase one’s overall stamina.
Retrain the brain. Using the Gupta Program can be very helpful in retraining the brain and rebuilding neural networks that help the brain begin producing chemicals that support having a healthy body once again. This program is especially helpful for those who have had LC long-term.
And, of course, work with your doctor (hopefully one that’s familiar with the FLCCC protocol) to help address any hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, and any other issues that may need to be addressed as one heals from this debilitating health circumstance.
There are many lifestyle changes and supplements that people are having good results with. But what works for some, may not work for others. My advice is to keep trying. Here are several things I’ve come across that have worked for different people:
Low carb diet - cutting out carbs and sugar
NAC twice a day
Omega 3
Nicotine patches
Vitamin D3 (5000IU/day)
Zyrtec or Claritin helps quite a bit for some people - usually you want antihistamines that block both the h1 and h2 receptors.
Fladrafinil (aka Adranafil) for severe brain fog - Absolute Focus by Bright Brain is a good option
L-creatine is known to help with the recovery process
L-carnitine may also help and help support mitochondrial function
Using a PEMF mat or infrared sauna to help with inflammation, better circulation and detoxing
Some people swear by using Lion’s Mane - especially to help with brain issues.
Paul Stamets suggests using the Turkey Tail and Agarikon mushrooms due to studies that it helped with COVID recovery.
Nattokinase/serrapeptase to help thin the blood and help with POTS and overall inflammation.
CoQ10 daily
Bromelain daily
Organic black seed oil - work up to taking one tsp. per day
The LOLA combination - l-ornithine and L-aspartate to help with muscle recovery
And, if you haven’t done so already, take a look at the FLCCC page. There’s a lot of great info and suggestions on this page.
** If tinnitus is an issue, consider looking into TMS magnet therapy.
I’ve also seen Dr. Turner’s page shared by others regarding steps one can take to help remove the spike protein from the body. Not mentioned on this page is dandelion root which is said to potentially help remove the spike protein as well.
I do not do consults but I hope this information might help you recover from Long COVID.
